Goal.com evaluates the performances of everyone involved at the Stadio Olimpico, after a game in which the Rossoneri came close to pulling off a stunning comeback

    Albano Bizzarri

Was grateful to Dias for clearing off the line after being nutmegged by a shot from El Shaarawy, and was then lucky that no Milan player was on hand to head home after he failed horribly to claim a corner from the left. In fairness, though, there was little he could do about either of Milan's goals.

  • Andrè Dias

    Andrè Dias

Saw yellow for stupidly going through Nocerino in Milan territory but it was he who was on hand to clear the danger when Pazzini got in behind the Lazio defense 20 minutes in. Came to Lazio's rescue again soon after when he superbly threw himself in the way of El Shaarawy's goalbound effort and celebrated preventing a goal as if he had scored one.

  • Giuseppe Biava

    Giuseppe Biava

Did not catch the eye as much as Dias but Biava turned in a pretty commanding performance at the heart of the Biancocelesti defense.

  • Abdoulay Konko

    Abdoulay Konko

Looked uncomfortable in possession at times, while the less said about his attempt from distance 15 minutes in the better. From a defensive perspective, though, he didn't do much wrong.

  • Stefano Mauri

    Stefano Mauri

Ultimately ran out of steam but was always looking to get involved and pick a pass with that cultured left foot of his, while he also called Amelia into action with a first half header - albeit a weak one. Rewarded for his endeavor with an assist for Hernanes.

  • Hernanes
    46
    4
    4.50

    Hernanes

With his silky touch and quick feet, he looked the man most likely to make something happen from very early on so it was no surprise that he broke the deadlock - albeit with a little help from Bonera.

  • Alvaro Gonzalez

    Alvaro Gonzalez

Full of energy, as demonstrated by the way in which he earned his side a throw in an attacking area after putting Amelia under pressure in the Milan goal.

  • Senad Lulic

    Senad Lulic

More than willing to take up advanced positions, but his delivery was pretty dreadful. Even worse, he twice gave the ball away in his own half during the opening quarter. However, from a defensive perspective, he excelled.

  • Cristian Ledesma

    Cristian Ledesma

An industrious presence in the middle of the park, Ledesma put in sliding tackles here, there and everywhere, which prevented Milan from attaining any sort of fluidity in their play.

  • Antonio Candreva

Antonio Candreva Top of the Match

Looked dangerous every single time he got a chance to run at players, as evidenced by the way in which he drew the foul that led to Nocerino going into the ref's notebook early on. However, the best was yet to come, with the former Udinese man doubling his side's lead with a wonderful long-range effort that moved all over the place in the air. Then threw in an assist for good measure, teeing up Klose with a measured ball from the right wing.

  • Miroslav Klose
    59

    Miroslav Klose

Was given very little room in which to maneuver by Bonera and Yepes in the first half, regularly being out-jumped in the air or just sent crashing to the floor as soon as the ball reached him. However, he simply waited and when his opportunity came, he took it with aplomb, coolly volleying home a cross from Candreva. On the down side, lost De Jong for Milan's first goal.

    Luis Cavanda

Came on for Mauri 15 minutes into the second half but did not play with the same purpose as the man he had replaced.

  • Lorik Cana

    Lorik Cana

Replaced Gonzalez midway through the second half but failed to really influence the game.

  • Cristian Brocchi

    Cristian Brocchi

Saw seven minutes of action at the end after taking over from Candreva.

  • Marco Amelia

    Marco Amelia

Stood in for the absent Abbiati, and must have wished he hadn't. Cruelly stranded on the edge of the six-yard box by Hernanes' deflected effort before then being left utterly bewitched by Candreva's swerving drive and absolutely exposed for Lazio's third.

  • Ignazio Abate
    18
    36
    3.00

    Ignazio Abate

Did his best to get forward down the right-hand side but never managed to pick anyone out in the area. Criminally, he went completely AWOL for Klose's volley early in the second half.

  • Daniele Bonera
    4
    58
    2.50

    Daniele Bonera

Was turned one way, and then the other by Hernanes in the lead up to the goal, before then inadvertently deflecting the ball into his own net as he attempted to block the Brazilian's strike. Also didn't know whether he was coming or going when Klose made it 3-0. A dreadful evening for the center half.

  • Mario Alberto Yepes
    24
    28
    3.00

    Mario Alberto Yepes

Very dominant in the air and made sure to let Klose know he was there as often as possible. However, this overly aggressive approach also earned him a booking for going through the German shortly before the interval.

  • Luca Antonini
    16
    34
    3.50

    Luca Antonini

Did well in difficult circumstances. Should have been given greater help in trying to shut down Candreva. At the other end, he put over one wonderful cross into that corridor of uncertainty just over half an hour in but offered little going forward overall, so preoccupied was he with trying to contain Candreva.

  • Antonio Nocerino
    9
    43
    2.00

    Antonio Nocerino

A real mixed bag from the midfielder. Twice miscontrolled the ball during the first half, as well as picking up a needless yellow for a clumsy foul on Candreva right on the touchline. However, also played a couple of defense-splitting passes, one of which El Shaarawy so nearly converted.

  • Kevin-Prince Boateng
    9
    69
    1.50

Kevin-Prince Boateng Flop of the Match

Continues to flatter to deceive this season. Kicked the ball straight out of play with virtually his first touch and then pretty much faded into obscurity before being replaced at the break. During these dark days, Milan really could do with Boateng back at his best.

  • Riccardo Montolivo
    50
    9
    3.50

    Riccardo Montolivo

Swung over a couple of decent set-pieces and difficult to fault him for effort - unlike some of his colleagues - but the former Fiorentina schemer was unable to influence the game to any great degree.

  • Nigel De Jong
    54
    7
    3.00

    Nigel De Jong

Had an early sight of goal but dragged his shot well wide but did get on the scoresheet on the hour mark when he did well to get his toe on Emanuelson's free kick. One of the few players clad in red in black that can say he did his job - breaking up play and distributing the ball swiftly - fairly adequately.

  • Giampaolo Pazzini
    13
    42
    2.50

    Giampaolo Pazzini

Held the ball up well and made a couple of well-timed runs in behind the Lazio back line. However, for the most part, he was starved of possession and an awkward header that Bizzarri easily managed to tip over was the best he could muster.

  • Stephan El Shaarawy
    75
    10
    4.00

    Stephan El Shaarawy

His touch was a little off in the early exchanges but caused problems every time Milan managed to get the ball to him, with his well-taken goal a fine case in point. It was a thoroughly deserved goal for the forward as he had been desperately unfortunate not to score in the first half after firing the ball through the legs of Bizzarri.

Substitutions

  • Urby Emanuelson
    69
    8
    3.50

    Urby Emanuelson

Came on for the listless Boateng at the break and offered Milan far more attacking endeavor. Indeed, he'd already produced one decent cross for Pazzini when he whipped over a low ball that De Jong toed home.

  • Alexandre Pato
    70
    13
    3.50

    Alexandre Pato

Replaced Nocerino six minutes into the second half and his return seemed to lift the Rossoneri, even if he never came close to scoring himself.

  • Bojan Krkic
    9
    49

    Bojan Krkic

Sent on in the closing stages as Milan went in search of an equalizer but he was unable to come to his side's rescue.
