C.D. Fas 1-3 Houston Dynamo: MLS club romps thanks to goals from Ching, Weaver and Watson
Three headed goals power Houston to victory.
By Shane Evans
The Houston Dynamo got its CONCACAF Champions League group stage off to a great start with a 3-1 win over C.D. FAS at Estadio Custcatlán. Goals from Brian Ching, Cam Weaver and Je-Vaughn Watson were the difference in the exciting affair.
Houston got the scoring started early in the match as Colin Clark took the ball down the left flank and played a wonderfully-placed ball into the area that was met by the head of Ching who nodded home to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
More good service followed in the 19th minute as Kofi Sarkodie worked himself into some space down the right and was able to put a lofted ball into the area where Weaver was waiting. The American dinked a head back across the goal and was able to beat C.D. FAS goalkeeper Luis Contreras.
The first half played out with FAS on the offensive but the home side wasn't able to breakdown a resilient Houston defense.
It was the visitors who opened up the second half on top and in the 60th minute they completed the hat trick of headers as a corner was played in that Je-Vaughn Watson met comfortable with his forehead and powered home. Once again, the the Dynmao were completely unmarked by the FAS defenders.
Minutes later though, FAS were able to scramble one back as second-half sub Jonathan Aguila was able to dig the ball out of a bundle of players in front of the Dynamo goal and flick it home to make the score 3-1. From there, FAS kept pressing to cut the lead to one.
As FAS kept pressing, its best chance came in the 75th minute as Alexander Larin blasted one from 30 yards that Tyler Deric did excellently to push aside on the dive. The remaining 15 minutes went by and FAS had chances but Deric was resolute and the score ended 3-1.
Houston will travel to Olimpia in its next fixture while FAS doesn't play again until mid-September when it'll travel to its conquerors Houston.
