- This will be the final match of Tottenham's preseason U.S. tour. It has drawn the LA Galaxy 1-1 and Liverpool 0-0 in its first two matches.
- New York is expected to hand a debut to new DP Tim Cahill in this match. The Australian was signed from Everton last week.
- Gareth Bale is questionable for this game after picking up an injury from a nasty challenge by Liverpool's Charlie Adam in the friendly on Saturday. Rafael van der Vaart is likely out with injury as well.
- The Red Bulls are coming off a 3-1 loss at Montreal on Saturday, and will play at Houston Friday, so manager Hans Backe is expected to give playing time to a large number of his squad players.
- Tottenham is expected to complete the sales of two players in the coming days: Steven Pienaar to Everton and Luka Modric to Real Madrid.
- The Red Bulls traded midfielder Mehdi Ballouchy to San Jose on Monday, in exchange for an international roster spot and a conditional draft pick
