Dudú Aouate Flop of the Match

The keeper made some fairly decent saves during the course of the game, but made a horrendous error as Messi's first-half effort squirmed through his arms and into the net. He never seemed too confident thereafter.

The Brazilian center back was solid for much of the game but allowed Alexis to peel away from him and set up Messi for the fourth. He stayed close to Geromel and limited the space in the channels.

  • Pedro Geromel

    Pedro Geromel

Had a fairly comfortable night at the back as three of Barcelona's four goals came from areas other than the middle. He dominated physical but was guilty of committing to the tackle at times.

  • Bigas

    Bigas

Made some crucial interceptions in the first half to stop Dani Alves and David Villa from bursting through on goal. He did attempt to get forward but made keeping Villa quiet his priority, something which he did successfully.

  • Ximo

    Ximo

Made one venture forward in the first half and almost set up Hemed for the opener. He was unable to cope with the pace of Tello throughout, though, and was skinned by the youngster far too many times.

  • Tomás Pina

    Tomás Pina

Screened the defense effectively as Mallorca dropped off and formed a strong defensive line. He could not get close to the play further up the field, but he did make it difficult for Barca to pass in triangles.

  • Michael Pereira

    Michael Pereira

Filled in alongside his left back extremely well in order to limit the effect of Dani Alves' movements forwards. He made some decent tackles and exposed the Brazilian's advances by finding space to net Mallorca's first.

  • Josep Lluis Martí

    Josep Lluis Martí

A late, and overzealous, challenge on Busquets during the early exchanges set the tone for his evening. He was off the pace and clumsy in the challenge, conceding the free kick which Xavi so expertly converted in the first half.

    Nsue

On the whole, he was very quiet, but as with Pereira, he dropped off to add to the numbers in defense. This frustrated Barca for periods but he failed to offer enough invention in the opposing half.

  • Tomer Hemed

    Tomer Hemed

His movement was good, but he failed to make the most of Mallorca's only two chances in the first half. Blazed over in the 18th minute before seeing his header denied by Victor Valdes and was substituted at halftime.

    Víctor

Set up Hemed for Mallorca's best first-half chance with a lovely cross. He then lofted the ball into Pereira, who slotted home and then converted a penalty moments later to really get the crowd going, but the momentum soon slowed.

    Alfaro

Replaced Hemed at the break and almost had a positive impact. He could have scored within three minutes but lost his footing and sent a volley over Valdes' goal.

Came on for the final eight minutes and was unable to impact the game.

  • Víctor Valdés

    Víctor Valdés

Proved solid when called into action as he made a great stop to keep Hemed's 22nd-minute header out. Picked up a number of other crosses into the box but was not tested too much and couldn't be faulted for either goal.

  • Daniel Alves

    Daniel Alves

Tested Aouate with an early strike but saw the pace in front of him limited by Pereira's defensive covering. He made some positive runs but was caught out as the Frenchman scored the hosts' second, unmarked.

  • Piqué

    Piqué

Making his first start in almost two months, Pique looked a bit short of match fitness. Laboured as he chased down the ball, the center back failed to orchestrate the defense effectively.

  • Jordi Alba
    48

    3.00

    Jordi Alba

Was hardly faced with anything down his flank defensively, but still picked his moments to push on carefully. He offered a regular outlet for the midfielders and fed Tello ahead of him in an average performance.

  • Cesc Fàbregas

    Cesc Fàbregas

Could not get to grips with the match from the opening stages as his touch frequently let him down. He was hesitant in possession and did not venture forwards to test the defenders as he usually would.

  • Xavi

    Xavi

A brilliant performance from the Barca captain. He pulled all the strings from midfield, spreading the play with some wonderful distribution. His great night included an exquisite free kick which broke the deadlock.

  • Javier Mascherano

    2.50

    Javier Mascherano

Had a solid first half but he got flustered under pressure early in the second half. Caught in possession, his mistake gave Caparros' side a shred of hope as Pereira made him pay by finding the net.

  • Busquets

    Busquets

The hub that is pivotal to the transition, Busquets always made himself available to receive a pass from his team-mates before moving it on astutely himself. Handled in the area to allow Mallorca to slot in their second from the spot.

  • David Villa

    David Villa

Was extremely quiet in the first half until he missed a chance to slot into an open goal, though Tello's cross was too powerful. He did not offer enough width on the right and was ineffective when drifting inside.

Lionel Messi Top of the Match

Dropped off the play to pick up the ball and used it extremely well, dishing it off to his teammates. Was fortunate to get his 75th goal of 2012 following a real blunder from Aouate, but his second was emphatic.

  • Tello

    Tello

Hugged the left flank and was involved in some of his side's better chances. While his final ball can frequently be frustrating, there was nothing uncertain about his goal which he swept home with aplomb.
