Player Ratings: QPR 0-1 Arsenal

Theo Walcott's strike after 20 seconds was enough for the Gunners to claim all three points on a comfortable afternoon and move back up to third place in the Premier League.

    Robert Green

Got a hand on Walcott's goal but could not keep it out but aside from that he looked more commanding than usual and may have even got a touch on Walcott's second effort that came back off the post. Made a number of saves you'd expect of him in the second half.

  • Armand Traoré

    Armand Traoré

Playing against his former club Traore looked a smidgen more up for the fight as he got up and down the left flank. Perhaps guilty in the build-up to the first goal of a poor defensive header but otherwise stuck to his job well.

  • Clint Hill

    3.00

    Clint Hill

Announced as the club's player of the year before kickoff, Hill couldn't have wished for a worse start as Walcott stole in behind him to open the scoring. The striker was a tricky customer all afternoon but Hill did improve.

  • Nedum Onuoha

    Nedum Onuoha

Played center back and didn't look out of place until he was caught in possession on the halfway line. Got away with it that time and largely kept the ineffective Podolski quiet. Distribution could have been quicker.

  • Tal Ben Haim

    Tal Ben Haim

Deployed at right-= back and it was he who played Walcott onside as he slowly pushed out of his box. Was competitive but inevitably slow, although he did surprise us all with an on-target 30 yarder. Didn't lack enthusiasm but his lapse in concentration cost his side a point.

  • Ji-Sung Park

    Ji-Sung Park

Did his best to support the forwards and had QPR's first couple of chances as he arrived late in the box. Scurried about in an attempt to inject some pace to QPR's pressing game but wasn't largely successful. Subbed for Taarabt.

  • Jermaine Jenas

    Jermaine Jenas

Didn't look sure of his role as he sat incredibly deep in midfield watching the game go on around him. He was almost playing as an auxiliary center back at times but even on the occasion he roved forward, his final ball was inadequate. Improved as the game wore on, but really only marginally.

  • Andros Townsend
    34
    13
    4.00

    Andros Townsend

The one ray of light on the right flank as he scuttled past Monreal and countered effectively for the hosts. Slid penetrating balls into the box and saw a free kick whistle wide in the first half before stinging the palms of Szczesny in the second. Gave his marker a torrid time and was the most threatening player on the pitch.

  • Stéphane M'Bia

    Stéphane M'Bia

Strange game as he lulled between composed play and reckless, headstrong incompetence in a midfield battle QPR would always be second best in. Subbed at halftime.

  • Loïc Remy
    7
    19
    2.00

    Loïc Remy

Looked as though he would give Mertesacker a torrid time but rarely, if ever, got in behind the Arsenal back line. Tried his best to hold up play but struggled. His interplay with Townsend was encouraging and he almost grabbed a point with a curling low drive that was well saved by Szczesny.

  • B. Zamora
    4
    23
    2.50

    B. Zamora

Did what he could, despite clearly playing with an injury. Not the most mobile but strong as an ox with his back to goal and sucked Mertesacker and Koscielny in on a number of occasions.

Substitutions

    Fabio Da Silva

On for the injured Traore with seconds to play.

  • Shaun Derry

    Shaun Derry

Introduced at the break for Mbia. Settled nicely before arriving late and chopping down Rosicky to pick up a booking.

  • Adel Taarabt

    20
    2.50

    Adel Taarabt

Came on with 10 to play for Park but could not get anything going as QPR chased an equalizer.

  • Wojciech Szczesny
    106
    5
    3.50

    Wojciech Szczesny

Had a comedy moment in the first half as he chose to chest and volley (very awkwardly) instead of catch a sliced 'backpass' but otherwise was sharp of his line. Just about dealt with a long-range Townsend strike before saving his finest to tip Remy's curling drive around his post.

  • Bacary Sagna
    50
    16
    3.00

    Bacary Sagna

Ably supported Walcott on the overlap as and when he could and was hardly required to come back and defend as QPR totally neglected the left flank (aside from the rare Traore break). Didn't do much wrong, but neither did he excel.

  • Per Mertesacker
    103
    6
    3.50

    Per Mertesacker

The giant German has developed into Arsenal's best center back this season after an initially apprehensive introduction to English football. On paper, you expected Remy to trouble him, but he read the game well and ensured he never lost sight of his opponent.

  • Laurent Koscielny
    103
    3
    3.00

    Laurent Koscielny

Pretty much dealt with Zamora although the target man did work the ball intelligently on a couple of occasions. Koscielny avoided conceding a penalty late in the day when Zamora tumbled under his challenge, but it looked like the right call.

  • Monreal
    29
    45
    2.00

    Monreal

Had probably his toughest inspection since arriving at Arsenal as he played up against a genuine pacy winger. Townsend ran him ragged at times and it was no surprise to see the Spaniard booked for dragging him back when in behind. Reluctant to get forward largely because of Townsend's threat on the break.

  • Tomas Rosicky
    94
    6
    3.00

    Tomas Rosicky

Displayed wonderful guile to draw the QPR defense in before slipping Walcott through for a chance that came back off the post and carried the ball confidently. Was hacked down by Derry but put in a good shift. An important player for Arsenal when fully fit.

  • Mikel Arteta
    83
    6
    3.50

    Mikel Arteta

Showed great composure so early in the game to reject the chance to shoot and roll a cute ball into Walcott for the opener. Sat as the deepest of the midfield three and aimed to control possession for the visitors.

  • Aaron Ramsey
    65
    20
    3.00

    Aaron Ramsey

Started well, guiding a header to Arteta to initiate the move for the first goal. Was positive as the most advanced of the midfield trio and looked to burst beyond Podolski whenever he could. Relaxed more as the game wore on did his job.

  • Santi Cazorla
    80
    13
    3.50

    Santi Cazorla

Nominally played off the left flank but roamed around and showed his quality with several delightfully measured passes over the QPR defense. Bit reluctant to shoot in the first half but slammed a shot at Green in the second. Replaced by Wilshere in the final stages.

  • Lukas Podolski
    42
    69
    1.00

    Lukas Podolski

Ineffective. Hardly gave any Arsenal fan a reason to support him over Giroud as the club's lead striker. Wandered about, looked disinterested and lacked a spring in his step to lose his marker. Poor. Taken off for Oxlade-Chamberlain.

  • Theo Walcott
    92
    14
    3.50

    Theo Walcott

Showed good awareness to get onto Arteta’s clever pass and a cool head to place the ball beyond Green for a 20 second opening goal. Almost scored from an identical position but saw his low drive rebound back off the post. Pestered the hosts' defense but seemed to fade as the game went on.

Substitutions

  • Jack Wilshere

    Jack Wilshere

    Late sub for Cazorla.

  • Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

    Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Came on in the final five minutes for Podolski.
