    Bradley Guzan

Rounded all too easily by Graham early on but got away with it. Could do little about Rose's goal and had a quiet night thereafter.

    Ron Vlaar

Opened the scoring with a ferocious shot from 30 yards. Solid when called into question, kept the play simple when in possession.

    Nathan Baker

Looked full of confidence at the back, which has been rare this season. Some fine interceptions and tackles, and contributed going forward.

    Matthew Lowton

Played a magnificent ball to Weimann for Villa's second goal and was in the thick of all of Villa's passing moves.

    Ashley Westwood

Helped keep things ticking over in midfield and put the opposition under constant pressure. Swung in the corner for Villa's fourth.

    Fabian Delph

Played his part in a busy midfield display without ever really doing much to stand out.

  • Yacouba Sylla

    Yacouba Sylla

A few neat touches and turns but seemed reluctant to cross when in wide areas, which seemed strange with Benteke to aim at.

  • Gabriel Agbonlahor

    Gabriel Agbonlahor

Missed a gilt-edge chance midway through the first half. Caused problems with his pace and finally got a goal at the death after being played in by Vaughan. Calmly rounded Mignolet to slot on.

    C. Benteke Top of the Match

Played a beautifully deft ball around the corner for Agbonlahor, who missed, but came into his own after the break. Stooped to head in the third after half-time, completely free, and then powered in a header shortly afterwards. Slotted under Mignolet for his hat-trick. Unplayable.

Simon Mignolet Flop of the Match

Looked worse and worse with every goal conceded. Harsh to blame him for the opener or the second, but was at fault for Villa's third and fifth strikes.

  • Phil Bardsley

    Phil Bardsley

Conceded a needless corner that was duly headed in by Benteke. Looked in trouble whenever Villa came down his side, which was often.

  • Danny Rose

    3.00

    Danny Rose

Scored a fine goal in the first half that displayed all his attacking abilities; great passing and an eye for goal. Looked good when attacking after that, but overwhelmed at the back like so many of his team-mates.

  • John O'Shea

    John O'Shea

Had a tough evening against Benteke, failing to impose himself and looking overwhelmed by Villa's runners from deep.

  • Carlos Javier Cuéllar

    Carlos Javier Cuéllar

Toiled against Benteke when the big striker swapped targets, also troubled by Agbonlahor's pace when the forward strayed into the middle.

  • Alfred N'diaye

    Alfred N'diaye

Did very little in a midfield that was completely overwhelmed.

    Sebastian Larsson

Nowhere near his usual self; unable to pick a pass or contribute any telling set-pieces. Replaced by Colback.

    Craig Gardner

Struggled against his former club, but was not the only one by any stretch.

  • Adam Johnson

    Adam Johnson

Looked lively whenever on the ball but that was all too rare. Nearly drifted in a cross-shot that would have got his side back in it, but that was the last of their chances as Villa ran riot.

  • Stéphane Sessegnon

    Stéphane Sessegnon

Same story as Johnson; struggled to get a grip of the game as the Villa support boosted the home side. Harshly sent off for a foul on Sylla and will probably miss the rest of the season, pending appeal.

  • Danny Graham

    Danny Graham

Got the better of Guzan early on but could not take advantage. Played a smart ball to Rose for the equaliser but barely got a look in after that. Subbed.

    Late replacement for Graham.
