The Potters record their first clean sheet at home since November as both teams battle out a lackluster clash with neither side able to create clear-cut chances

Was rarely tested in a quiet opening half but was able to deny Chris Brunt's effort at the second attempt. The Bosnian saw more of the ball after the break as the visitors pushed for a goal and showed strong positioning to deny Romelu Lukaku.

Although he’s not normally a left-back, the 27-year-old looked comfortable throughout the game and did well to halt whichever Albion forward he was up against. He tried to provide support for Matthew Etherington but his opportunities were limited.

  • Marc Wilson

    Marc Wilson

Like Ryan Shawcross, he did well in keeping the chances West Brom had to a minimum. He rose well to clear balls aimed towards Romelu Lukaku and picked up the runners from midfield well.

The Stoke captain had a solid game alongside Marc Wilson as he kept Romelu Lukaku fairly quiet for large parts of the game. He was strong in the air and when he had the ball at his feet he did his best to keep possession.

  • Ryan Shotton

The right back had a shaky start as he gave away an early free kick on the edge of the penalty area and then gave the ball in the fifth minute which led to a Chris Brunt shot on goal. His performance never really recovered from that as he continued to make mistakes that put his side under pressure.

  • Glenn Whelan

    Glenn Whelan

Tried to be the creative one in midfield, taking the ball from Steven N’Zonzi and trying to release both wingers, however, the ball was in the air a lot and the play passed him by a little. He picked up an injury late on in the first half and was replaced at halftime by Dean Whitehead.

    Steven N'Zonzi

Sat himself in front of the back four to protect them against the West Brom midfield but also to collect the ball and play it out of defense instead of encouraging the long ball. It worked well.

  • Matthew Etherington

The winger worked well down both flanks and delivered some accurate crosses into the penalty area but Cameron Jerome, Peter Crouch and Jonathan Walters were not able to convert them.

  • Jonathan Walters

    Jonathan Walters

The striker worked hard to find space and create shooting opportunities but it was a tough ask for him. The one real chance of the first half fell to the Republic of Ireland international but his strike was deflected wide from the edge of the area. He swapped positions with Cameron Jerome at regular intervals to try and mix things up but the West Brom defense were able to cope.

  • Peter Crouch

    Peter Crouch

A frustrating afternoon for the striker. He had very little to work with and was marked so closely that even linking up with Walters and Jerome was tough. He never had a clear a sight of goal and was replaced by Kenwyne Jones in the 64th minute.

  • Cameron Jerome

Made a nuisance of himself down the right side and ran at Liam Ridgewell with some success but his final delivery lacked quality. He was able to use his aerial ability well to meet a couple of deep crosses from Matthew Etherington but he couldn’t direct them on target.

    Charlie Adam

He replaced Cameron Jerome in the 75th minute and gave Stoke more creativity but was unable to find that killer pass. He had two free kicks in ideal positions but wasted both by firing into the wall.

He replaced Whelan at halftime and worked very hard with Steven N’Zonzi to get control of the game but struggled as West Brom began to control the game.

Replaced Crouch in the 64th minute and gave renewed hope but the lack of chances made it tough for him to have an impact.

    Ben Foster

A solid performance from the keeper, he didn’t have a shot to save into the opening hour of the match but he showed excellent command of his penalty area as he claimed crosses and organized his defense well.

He too had problems with Crouch in the air but he worked well with McAuley to pick up the knock downs and clear the danger from in front of his goal.

    Liam Ridgewell

Defensively he had good battles with both Jerome and Etherington, with the full back coming out on top in most of them. He was also able to provide a good attacking threat down the left and delivered some dangerous crosses that Lukaku wasn’t able to convert.

  • Gareth McAuley

He challenged Crouch in the air well throughout and although he didn’t win every header he certainly made it difficult for the striker to link up with his teammates.

When faced with the pace of Etherington he struggled to keep the winger at bay and there were a few crosses coming in from his side of the pitch, however when Jerome moved to his flank he was able to stay much closer to him and did well.

Dictated the way the visitors played as he continually picked the ball up from his defenders and looked to distribute the ball to players ahead on him. He worked very well with Mulumbu in providing a shield for the defense which frustrated the Stoke midfield.

  • James Morrison

    James Morrison

A solid performance from the Scot without ever really setting the game alight, his passing was neat and tidy, he always made himself available for a pass but he didn’t influence the game like he can do. He was replaced by Fortune with five minutes to play.

  • Chris Brunt

    Chris Brunt

Got up and down the pitch throughout the game and had Albion’s best chance of the first half when he was played in by Morrison but Begovic did enough to keep his shot out. He tried to get up alongside Lukaku whenever he could and was a threat the Stoke defense had to deal with.

  • Jerome Thomas

    Jerome Thomas

He was eager to run at Shotton and given the success he had from the opening minute it is no surprise, he gave the full back a tough afternoon but could have done better with his final ball into the penalty area. He was replaced by Odemwingie in the 67th minute.

  • Youssouf Mulumbu

    Youssouf Mulumbu

Battled away against Whelan and N’Zonzi in the middle of the pitch and had a fair amount of success in breaking up the moves Stoke did try to build.

    Romelu Lukaku

Didn’t see much of the ball in the opening half as the play seemed to be in the middle of the pitch but when he was called upon he held the ball up well and linked up play nicely. He had early chances after the break but was unable to convert them despite excellent deliveries from Ridgewell and Jones. He was replaced by Long in the 76th minute.
