Player Ratings: Newcastle 2-1 Stoke

Jon Walters' penalty looked to have earned the Potters a change of luck on the road, yet Papiss Cisse's late winner earned three vital points after Yohan Cabaye's equalizer.

Another comfortable display in the Newcastle goal. Elliot has no qualms patrolling his area and claiming crosses.

    Davide Santon

At times failed to deal with Shotton, and was fortunate not to concede a penalty to the Stoke man in the first half. Made way for Haidara with 20 minutes remaining.

    Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa

Classy display from the former Montpellier man. Defensively sound and calm enough on the ball to retain possession wherever possible. More than just a capable deputy for Coloccini.

  • Mathieu Debuchy

    Mathieu Debuchy

As expected, a positive performance when going forward even if his crosses only served to put pressure on the Stoke defense and not create any chances. However, left a gaping hole for Walters to run into in the build-up to the penalty.

  • Steven Taylor

    Steven Taylor

Looked solid alongside Mbiwa, making a couple of top interceptions, while his unusual attempts to distract Asmir Begovic in the build-up to Yohan Cabaye's free kick may have played some small part in the goal.

  • Yohan Cabaye

Yohan Cabaye Top of the Match

Captain in the absence of Coloccini, the midfielder turned in another classy performance. Saw two superb efforts drift just wide of Begovic's far post, while his lofted through ball created the best chance of the game for Gouffran. There was no near miss with his perfectly executed free kick however.

  • Moussa Sissoko

    Moussa Sissoko

Another powerful display from the French midfielder, and the driving force behind Newcastle's attack. You get the feeling he still hasn't hit his stride in English football - a fact that shouldn't detract from his performance this afternoon, but serve as a warning to forthcoming opponents.

  • Jonas Gutierrez

    Jonas Gutierrez

Much of the same from the Argentine. Going forward, he at times can slow Newcastle down and produces very little, but is always on hand to track back and tuck in, which is surely the reason for his continued inclusion in Pardew's starting XI.

  • Cheikh Tiote

    Cheikh Tiote

Started brightly, but old habits soon reared their head. Every good pass was met with a loose one, while his rash challenge in Jon Walters led to a penalty and almost cost his side the game.

  • Papiss Cissé

    Papiss Cissé

Was about to be on the receiving end of a scathing review after a 90 minute display without any real quality. However, his coolly taken finish in the dying moments of the game earned Newcastle a vital three points and a much-needed confidence boost for himself

  • Yoan Gouffran

    Yoan Gouffran

After a quiet start to proceedings, the wideman quickly rekindled the lively form he has enjoyed in the early stages of his Newcastle career. May not have penetrated the Stoke defense, but gave it his best shot and made things happen.

Replaced Tiote to give Newcastle a bit more impetus going forward, and picked out Cisse with a delightful ball to win the game

    Asmir Begovic

Despite Newcastle's dominance in attack, Begovic's goal was never truly threatened. Dealt well with what did come his way.

    Geoff Cameron

Linked up well with Shotton down the right and made a crucial interception on Cisse in the first half when the striker appeared to be through on goal.

    Marc Wilson

Not as commanding as his defensive partner, but could be counted on when needed, blocking a dangerous cross from Gouffran as the Frenchman looked to fire across the face of goal, and stood up well to the forward again when being charged at later in the game. However, his failure to keep up with play kept Cisse on side for the goal

  • Ryan Shawcross

    Ryan Shawcross

A strong display from the Stoke captain, who stood up well to Debuchy's early low cross with Cisse lurking behind him ready to tap home, while he was also dominant in the air.

  • Andy Wilkinson

    Andy Wilkinson

His policy of fully committing to everything, from full-blooded challenge to long-ball clearance, is effective, yet most of Newcastle's best attacking work came down his flank this afternoon.

  • Ryan Shotton

    Ryan Shotton

A lively display on the right-hand side from the 24-year-old, who often caused Santon problems at left back. Was among the chances too, even if he was never clinical.

  • Glenn Whelan

    Glenn Whelan

Had little influence from the middle of the park, and was unable to get amongst the Newcastle midfield, instead leaving much of the work to N'Zonzi.

  • Steven N'Zonzi

    Steven N'Zonzi

A robust display from the defensive midfielder, whose long legs can see him retain possession and move well when in a tight spot. A tendency to invite challenges by not releasing the ball early enough sometimes cost him however.

  • Jonathan Walters

    Jonathan Walters

Twice found himself the wrong side of the offside trap when remaining on would have paid dividends. Successfully won and dispatched the penalty in the second 45 however.

Other than two tame efforts, the striker failed to make an impact for his side, with him and Jerome showing little understanding as a striker partnership.

Cameron Jerome Flop of the Match

Contributed little throughout, with it evident why Stoke are on such a lean streak in front of goal recently. Petulant when substituted as well as he slowly trudged from the field
