James Collins was at fault for Pavel Pogrebnyak's early goal, which in the end cost the Hammers the match, with Ricardo Vaz Te missing an absolute sitter very late in the game

    Adam Federici

Did fabulously to tip over a header from Reid. Dominant when dealing with crosses. Smart low save to keep out Nolan. Fine save to deny Collison after halftime.

Defended well but could have offered more going forward.

Hurt when bravely cutting out a dangerous low cross. Solid against Cole. Brilliant tackle to block a Jarvis cross and then a later shot. Denied Vaz Te a goal too.

Dealt with Cole well and read various through balls intelligently.

Didn't have too much to do but was fairly solid, like Gunter could have got forward more.

Some nice touches in the middle of the park and kept things ticking over. Smashed a shot against the bar.

    Mikele Leigertwood

Left Nolan with too much room at times and gave away possession too easily on a number of occasions. Broke up some attacks well, though.

    Jobi McAnuff

Not really involved in the first 45 minutes, but threatened with one good winding run.

  • Jimmy Kebe

    Jimmy Kebe

Dangerous on wing, tracking back too. Draw fouls and found space with his ace and direct running. Offered some dangerous crosses that just needed someone to attack them. Earned an ovation when brought off in the second period.

  • Danny Guthrie

    Danny Guthrie

Pressed quickly and high up the pitch to try and force errors, something which nearly came off when O'Neil almost surrendered the ball. Could have done more to get in the box.

  • Pavel Pogrebnyak

    Pavel Pogrebnyak

Calm finish for his goal, which he was gifted. Linked up with Kebe well and held up play superbly. Was clumsy and late on Reid to earn a booking. Could have attacked crosses more.

    Jussi Jaaskelainen

No chance for Pogrebnyak's goal, thanks to Collins passing him the ball. Nearly allowed Kebe in with a short pass to O'Brien.

    Winston Reid

Went close with a header but was denied by Federici. Better at dealing with Pogrebnyak than his center back partner.

Defended well at times but was never threatening on the front foot at right back.

    Joey O'Brien

Rash early tackle and marked loosely. Struggled when one-on-one against Kebe. Dealt well when Jaaskelainen nearly put him in trouble.

James Collins Flop of the Match

Truly horrendous error gave Pogrebnyak his goal, and it showed as the defender covered his face with his shirt afterwards. Won some important headers but losing battle against the Russian. Late tackle on the forward got him a yellow.

  • Kevin Nolan

    Kevin Nolan

Offered some nice link up play and dangerous deliveries. Pulled strings with through ball. Had a decent effort saved well and was the Hammers' main threat.

  • Matthew Jarvis

    Matthew Jarvis

Offered plenty of width and most of the Hammers' early moves went through him, but then quietened down. Was bright once more after the break but some poor deliveries let him down.

  • Matthew Taylor

    Matthew Taylor

Some nice play against Harte and could have run at him more. Overall pretty uninvolved before the break and withdrawn soon after.

    Mark Noble

Earned a yellow with a wild lunge on Kebe. Some sharp passing but failed to really cut open the Royals' defense with his balls. Better after the break when he tried to control the game more. Brought off for some fresh legs late on.

  • Gary O'Neil

    Gary O'Neil

Very nearly caught in possession right in front of his back four soon after the first goal, which he surely should have learned from. Some wayward passing too. Sacrificed by Vaz Te as Allardyce searched for an equalizer.

  • Carlton Cole

    Carlton Cole

Body language was oddly uninterested and failed to threaten either in the air or on the ground in the first 45. Headed narrowly over just after the break, and looked a bit more lively.
