Southampton will be without summer signing Gaston Ramirez until the middle of November after sustaining a badly bruised thigh before the most recent international break.

Frazer Richardson is out for an indefinite period of time after receiving a bad blow to his right leg in the 2-2 draw with Fulham, while Danny Fox is in a race against time to recover from a slight knock. Jack Cork (knee) remains sidelined until the first week of November.

Andre Villas-Boas is expected to welcome Gareth Bale back into the fold after the Welshman was given time off following the birth of his daughter.

Mousa Dembele (hip) is a doubt, but may be risked in the middle, while Emmanuel Adebayor (back) also missed the 1-1 draw with Maribor on Thursday night and is unlikely to feature.

Villas-Boas confirmed Benoit Assou-Ekotto (knee) is a week or two from a first-team return, but there is no such luck for Younes Kaboul (knee) or Scott Parker (Achilles) who are both set to remain on the treatment table until December.

  • Tottenham has lost its last four trips to Southampton by a score of 1-0.
  • The north Londoners haven't scored in their previous six visits to the Saints, conceding 10 in the process.
  • Southampton has conceded more goals in the opening eight games than anyone in the history of the Premier League (24).
  • Nigel Adkins' side has also allowed more shots (50) on goal than any other team in the division.
  • Spurs has won just 10 of 49 games away at Southampton.
  • Gareth Bale (pictured right) will play his first competitive game against the club he began his career with.
  • Spurs have scored 80 percent of their goals in the second half of games (a Premier League high) but have also conceded 83 percent of their goals in the second period (also a divisional high).
  • Southampton has dropped 11 points from winning positions this season - the most of any club in the league.
