    José Reina Paez

The Spaniard's shot stopping was comfortable enough but he looked shaky under crosses throughout the match, not least as he wafted at thin air in the buildup to Yaya Toure's strike.

  • Glen Johnson

    Glen Johnson

A strong display, first at left back before moving to the right. Generally comfortable in defense and offered a dangerous attacking outlet. Could have won a penalty in the second half when brought down by Kolarov in the area.

  • Sebastián Coates
    52
    11
    3.00

    Sebastián Coates

The Uruguayan started in rather nervous fashion but grew in confidence as the game went on, showing good awareness and forming an understanding with Skrtel.

  • Martin Kelly
    24
    30
    2.00

    Martin Kelly

A generally strong performance from the right back until his poor control in the 63rd minute allowed Yaya Toure to score for the visitors. Almost immediately replaced by Jose Enrique after that costly error.

  • Martin Skrtel
    59
    27
    2.50

    Martin Skrtel

The Slovakian celebrated his new contract with a wonderful thumping header from Gerrard's corner to open the scoring in the 34th minute. Then undid his good work with a woeful back pass for Tevez's late equalizer.

  • Steven Gerrard
    49
    14
    2.50

    Steven Gerrard

A very tactically disciplined display from the Reds captain. Took up good positions and was happy to sit deep and help the hosts dictate the game. Magnificent first half cross almost forced an own goal from Kompany.

  • Lucas Leiva
    36
    14

    Lucas Leiva

A miserable afternoon for the Brazilian as he was forced off after just five minutes with a thigh injury he picked up during the warmup.

  • Joe Allen
    81
    12
    4.00

    Joe Allen

The summer signing produced a performance to suggest he could be a huge success at Anfield. Always happy to take the ball under pressure, kept possession well and picked out some very classy forward passes as he controlled the midfield battle.

  • Raheem Sterling
    91
    7
    3.50

    Raheem Sterling

The 17-year-old made his first Premier League start and delivered on the hype with an almost arrogant performance of pace, trickery and skill. Caused Kolo Toure all sorts of problems and showed he can pick a final pass with dangerous crosses, including one for Borini in the first half.

  • Luis Suárez
    74
    7
    3.50

    Luis Suárez

Capped a bright, lively display with a wonderful free kick curled around the wall and into the bottom corner in the 66th minute. His finishing until that point was profligate but his movement and link-up play was a nightmare for the City defense.

  • Fabio Borini
    48
    15
    3.00

    Fabio Borini

The Italian did not always look comfortable on the right side of the Liverpool attack but his movement was impressive and use of the ball intelligent. Should have scored in the first half but volleyed wide from close range.

Substitutions

  • José Enrique
    37
    11
    2.50

    José Enrique

The Spaniard looked a little off the pace at left back after replacing Kelly in the 66th minute.

  • Jonjo Shelvey
    54
    10
    2.50

    Jonjo Shelvey

Replaced Lucas in the fifth minute and handled the situation well with efficient, tidy passing and positioning. Late left-footed shot rasped just over the crossbar.

  • Andy Carroll
    40
    14

    Andy Carroll

His last Liverpool appearance, perhaps? The £35m man replaced Borini in the 83d minute and went close with a looping header.

  • Joe Hart
    10
    28
    2.00

    Joe Hart

The City goalkeeper could do nothing about Skrtel's opener but will accept some responsibility for the Reds' second - either for a poorly organized wall or slow reactions to Suarez's free kick.

  • Vincent Kompany
    17
    28
    3.00

    Vincent Kompany

The City captain did not appear particularly comfortable with the formation used by Mancini but defended well in the penalty area with important blocks and clearing headers.

  • Pablo Zabaleta
    10
    29
    2.50

    Pablo Zabaleta

The Argentine worked hard but looked uncomfortable in a central role in City's three-man defence. Seemed to struggle to read Suarez's movement and was beaten in the air for Skrtel's goal.

  • Aleksandar Kolarov
    11
    45
    1.00

    Aleksandar Kolarov

Another performance in which the negatives far outweighed the positives. Left foot was an attacking threat but he fell asleep defensively, failing to heed the warning of losing Borini for an earlier chance as Skrtel escaped and headed home. May well have conceded a penalty in the second-half, too, for a clumsy challenge on Johnson.

  • Kolo Toure
    7
    38
    1.50

    Kolo Toure

A torrid afternoon for the Ivorian center back as he never looked comfortable and was exposed by the hosts. Lack of mobility exposed, especially by Sterling's direct dribbling.

  • James Milner
    4
    37
    2.00

    James Milner

An honest, hard-working display at right wing back but could have done more defensive work against Sterling and offered very little going forward.

  • Samir Nasri
    13
    36
    2.00

    Samir Nasri

Looked bright early on as he combined neatly with Tevez but disappeared from the game once Liverpool got on top. Replaced by Rodwell in the 59th minute.

  • Nigel De Jong
    6
    35
    2.00

    Nigel De Jong

A feisty display from the Dutchman in defensive midfield as he looked to deny Liverpool space between the lines. Use of the ball could have been better

  • Yaya Touré
    26
    18
    3.00

    Yaya Touré

A rare quiet performance as he appeared to drift through much of the game before being given more attacking freedom following Rodwell's introduction. On the spot to the in from close range in the 63rd minute to make the score 1-1.

  • Carlos Tévez
    38
    35
    4.00

    Carlos Tévez

For the second week in a row, he was City's brightest spark in attack and a constant menace for the Liverpool defense. Got his goal 10 minutes from time after latching on to a loose ball and rounding Reina. Also played a key role in Yaya Toure's equalizer with a run and cross from the right and hit the post from a tight angle in the first half.

  • Mario Balotelli
    13
    46
    2.00

    Mario Balotelli

A frustrating afternoon for the striker as he never really got away from the Liverpool defense. Blasted over in the first half but Roberto Mancini had seen enough by the 62nd minute and replaced him with Dzeko.

Substitutions

  • Jack Rodwell
    12
    28
    2.50

    Jack Rodwell

Replaced Nasri in the 59th minute and sat in midfield. Conceded the free kick for Suarez's goal as he handled Gerrard's long-range shot.

  • David Silva
    25
    21

    David Silva

Came on for Milner in the 76th minute and provided calmness on the ball late on.

  • Edin Dzeko
    59
    22
    2.50

    Edin Dzeko

The Bosnian replaced Balotelli in the 62nd minute and got in dangerous positions around the Liverpool box, although his finishing was off target.
