Mexico advanced to the semifinal round of CONCACAF Olympic qualifying with ease, dispatching Panama 1-0 in the third group game thanks to an Erick Torres 90th minute goal.

"Mexico, wherever it plays, has to win and the players who hadn't had that much participation in the tournament got to play today," Marco Fabian said. "Now we have to think about Saturday. The important thing was to win and, even though the goal came towards the end, the important thing was the three points. That gives us confidence for this weekend."

In all three group stage games Mexico's U23s scored 11 goals and conceded one. Now El Tri will face Canada in the semis, with the winner qualifying for the summer Olympic games in London. Honduras and El Salvador will meet in the other semi.

The Home Depot Center hosted Group B games. The semi and final will be in LIVESTRONG Sporting Park, in Kansas City, Kan.

"We leave Carson very happy and with the confidence that we're doing things well. We won't fall into an excess of confidence," Javier Cortes said. "We took a step tonight and the important match is the next one.

"Canda looks very strong. We know all of our rivals have a chance and we need to be attentive to our work."

"El Cubo" Torres made his first start of the qualifying tournament with progression already assured. The 19-year-old scored in injury time off Mexico's only shot on frame.

"It's very nice to score a goal with the national team. It's unexplainable. It was good to play, get minutes and score a goal. I dedicate the goal to my parents; I love them," Torres said. "We need to work and keep going the same way to take advantage of opportunities that come our way."
