Los Angeles Galaxy 1-0 Seattle Sounders: Mike Magee goal the difference as defending champion enters playoffs on a win
The final game of the 2012 MLS regular season ended with a 1-0 victory for the defending MLS Cup champion.
By Keith Hickey
Mike Magee's 83rd minute goal was the difference as Los Angeles took a narrow victory over Seattle in the final match of the 2012 regular season.
Magee broke the deadlock late in the game, the substitute teeing up a ball expertly laid off on the edge of the penalty area by Robbie Keane for his fifth of the season.
Of more concern for Seattle than the result will be the health of Eddie Johnson. The U.S. national team star, who topped the Sounders scoring charts this season with 14 goals, was taken off just before halftime with an apparent hamstring injury.
With the result, Seattle and LA finish third and fourth, respectively, in the Western Conference. Seattle will play Real Salt Lake in the Western Conference semifinals, while defending MLS Cup winner Los Angeles will do battle with the Vancouver Whitecaps for the right to take on newly-crowned Supporters' Shield winner San Jose.
