The Chicago Fire and D.C. United drew 1-1 on Saturday in the last matchday of the regular season.
The opening goal was a dandy. Patrick Nyarko and Sherjill MacDonald exchanged a few passes. At the top of the box, Nyarko niftily scooted the ball around Marcelo Saragosa's challenge and uncorked from 25 yards. The ball curled around Bill Hamid for Nyarko's fourth goal of the season.
Early in the second half, Lionard Pajoy equalized. Branko Boskovic crossed from the left and Pajoy ducked down nearly to field level to head the ball in from a tight angle.
The match featured plenty of goalkeeper saves and a handful of glaring misses. The draw means D.C. United finishes second in the East and the Chicago Fire fourth. The Fire will play the Houston Dynamo in a knockout match to enter the playoffs proper.
