San Jose Earthquakes 2-2 LA Galaxy: Wondolowski one goal from league record

The prolific striker is set up for a chance at league history in San Jose's season finale.

The LA Galaxy and San Jose Earthquakes played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at Buck Shaw Stadium, in a match that saw Chris Wondolowski move to within one goal of tying the MLS all-time single-season scoring record

The first half passed with the Galaxy seeing the better of the chances, but Jon Busch held firm in the San Jose net to ensure the match would enter the half scoreless.

The second half would be a different story. The Galaxy opened the scoring in the 59th minute when Robbie Keane finished from close range after a cross bounced off two Earthquakes defenders. The lead only lasted two minutes, thanks to Marvin Chavez's outstanding free-kick from 25 yards out.

The Galaxy regained the lead in the 69th minute when Edson Buddle got on the end of a Sean Franklin cross to nod home. It was just the third goal of the season for Buddle, who has battled injury and poor form all year long.

Wondolowski's clever header just a few minutes later meant the game would end at 2-2. It was the striker's 26th goal of the season, and he now sits one behind Roy Lassiter's record of 27, with one game left to play.
