Eddie Gaven scored in the first minute of stoppage time to hand the Columbus Crew a point in a 1-1 home draw against Sporting Kansas City.
It appeared that C.J. Sapong's header in the 10th minute would be the match's only goal. The second-year man got on the end of a deflected cross from Graham Zusi and headed against the post, but the ball rebounded right back to him and he headed home to score his eighth goal of the season.
After a number of chances, the Crew finally found the vital equalizer in stoppage time. Emilio Renteria got on the end of a loose ball and crossed for Gaven, who just snuck a header in at the near post.
The point meant Columbus is now one point behind Houston for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Sporting KC remains atop the conference, three points ahead of Chicago, which clinched a playoff berth with the result.
