A last-minute Justin Meram goal sealed three points for the Columbus Crew against Chivas USA. The hosting side won 1-0 in Crew Stadium, with Andy Gruenebaum pulling off five saves to earn his clean sheet.
Jairo Arrieta put the ball in the back of the net in the 20th minute. Josh Williams drilled the ball on frame from distance and Dan Kennedy spilled the shot. Arrieta pounced, but the strike was called back for offside.
A few minutes later Julius James clanked a towering header from a Federico Higuain free kick off the upright.
The game's only goal came in the 89th minute. Tony Tchani split the Chivas defense with a through ball to Higuain. Arrieta slid to direct the low cross on frame, but Kennedy blocked it again. From the ground, Arrieta put his head on the rebound, keeping the ball aloft, and Justin Meram streamed into the box to slam home the finish.
