D.C. United 4-2 Chicago Fire: Offensive explosion leads DCU to home win

D.C. United moved to within one point of fourth-placed Chicago with a 4-2 win at RFK Stadium. The match was the first time in the 2012 season that the Fire conceded more than two goals in a game.
The home team took the lead in the 19th minute when Chris Pontius hit a low shot to the far post that flashed across the face of goal, but was let go by Chicago goalkeeper Sean Johnson. Dwayne De Rosario snuck in to tap home at the far post to open the scoring.
Chicago equalized just before the half after a slick passing move. Sherjill MacDonald held off his defender well and dropped a pass off to Marco Pappa, who slotted Daniel Paladini in to finish low past Bill Hamid.
But just as it looked like the teams would enter the locker rooms even at one, makeshift right back Andy Najar made an enterprising run down the flank and his cross met the head of new acquisition Lionard Pajoy at the back post, and the Colombian powered past Johnson.
Just five minutes into the second half, Brandon McDonald doubled D.C.'s lead. Chris Korb collected a loose ball off a corner kick and sent a cross in that the defender headed up and over Johnson and into the far post.
The Fire brought themselves back into the game with 15 minutes to play when Pavel Pardo found a criminally unmarked Gonzalo Segares at the back post off a free kick, and the left back headed across Hamid and into the far-post side netting.
United would put the game away late though, De Rosario cut into the box and squared to substitute Long Tan, whose scuffed shot inexplicably snuck under the hands of Johnson and into the net.
