The Colorado Rapids and Chivas USA played out a 1-1 draw on Saturday night.
Both squads were determined to make their way up in the Western Conference standings at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, and it was the Rapids who started off strong. Midfielder Martin Rivero took a surprise shot outside the 18, which demanded keeper Dan Kennedy to make an early save.
In the 19th minute, Chivas USA attempted to clear the ball out of its box. Shalrie Joseph, appearing in red and white for just the second time, turned to get rid of the ball. The midfielder was surprised as Brian Mullan stole the ball and easily scored the first goal of the match.
The final 45 started off with Dan Kennedy making a potential save of the week. Omar Cummings had a textbook header off of a Hunter Freeman cross, but Kennedy blocked it with one hand.
A quick substitution brought Conor Casey back onto the field for the first time since July 7. He made numerous attempts, but was unable to score.
The Goats were down, but definitely not out. In the 83rd minute, Tristan Bowen sent the ball into the path of Juan Pablo Angel who quickly made the final score 1-1.
