The Montreal Impact brushed aside the visiting Philadelphia Union by a 2-0 scoreline on Saturday evening.
In the first half, Patrice Bernier chipped the ball into a congested box after a corner. Jumping away from goal, rookie Andrew Wenger looped a header past Zac MacMath.
With 25 minutes left in the match both teams lost a player. Nelson Rivas took issue with a Antoine Hoppenot tackle and head-butted the rookie on the face. Jack McInerney rushed to defend his teammate, throwing Rivas aside. The referee ejected Rivas and McInerney.
Montreal killed off the game shortly afterward. Hassoun Camara scampered up the right flank and crossed into the box. Felipe Martins went airborne and scissor-kicked the ball into the bottom corner of the goal.
