Montreal Impact Designated Player Alessandro Nesta made his full MLS debut in a 3-1 win over the New York Red Bulls.
Nesta's best friend, Marco Di Vaio, opened the scoring in the first half when he drifted to the left of the NY back line to receive a feed and then slanted his low shot inside the far post.
Just seconds later the Impact doubled the lead. Felipe Martins chipped the ball into the attack. Patrice Bernier ducked to get out of the way, and Davy Arnaud broke the offside trap. His shot bounced off Bill Gaudette but still trickled in.
Thierry Henry scored New York's goal. Joel Lindpere hustled to keep the ball in play at the end line and it bounced to the Frenchman, who dinked the ball over the poorly-positioned Donovan Ricketts.
Sanna Nyassi scored the sealing goal in the second half. Again Martins assisted, this time sliding the ball through a jumbled Red Bulls defense, leaving Nyassi completely free at the far post. The Gambian knocked the ball around Gaudette and finished with his left.
