New York Red Bulls 1-0 Chicago Fire: Henry wonder strike gives Red Bulls home win
In a match that appeared headed for a scoreless draw, the Frenchman scored a thunderbolt to give his side the win.
By Seth Vertelney
Thierry Henry beat the heat - and the Chicago Fire, with a second-half wonder goal, leading the Red Bulls to a 1-0 win at a sweltering Red Bull Arena.
In a match that featured temperatures of well over 100 degrees, the Red Bulls were on top in the first half as the Fire sat back to conserve energy. Chicago goalkeeper Sean Johnson stood tall however, and the match went into halftime scoreless.
With 20 minutes left to play, Henry broke the deadlock in spectacular fashion, chesting down a cross-field ball from Sebastien Le Toux and firing an unstoppable half-volley in off the inside of the far post. It was the striker's first goal since April 28 and it would be all his side needed to secure the victory.
With the win, New York jumped up to second place in the Eastern Conference, leapfrogging D.C. United, which has a game in hand. Chicago remained in fourth place.
