San Jose Earthquakes 5-0 Real Salt Lake: Wondo hat trick leads statement win
The big forward had another big night with three goals as San Jose made a statement about its place in the Western Conference.
Ezra Shaw
Chris Wondolowski scored three of his team's five goals on Saturday night as the San Jose Earthquakes ran away with massive 5-0 win over Real Salt Lake.
Wondolowski got his and the game's first goal of the night 18 minutes in, but it was a red card to Kyle Beckerman in the second half that really turned the match on its head.
After the midfielder was sent off in the 57th, with the score still 1-0 in San Jose's favor, the Earthquakes went on a rampage.
Alan Gordon made it 2-0 in the 63rd, Wondolowski netted his second of the night in the 72nd and Simon Dawkins put in San Jose's fourth in the 79th.
With the match out of reach for RSL, all that was left was for Wondolowski to finish off his third career hat trick a minute later, rounding off a resounding victory in a match between the Western Conference's top two teams.
