Chicago Fire 1-0 Vancouver Whitecaps: Pardo free kick wins it
A Pavel Pardo free kick 10 minutes into the match was enough for Chicago to claim three points at home.
David Banks
Pavel Pardo scored his first goal of the season with a lovely free kick to hand the Chicago Fire a 1-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday night.
Pardo's curling floater found net just 10 minutes into the game after Patrick Nyarko was fouled in a dangerous area, and the Fire held on to the lead despite playing the last 20 minutes of the game with just 10 men.
Arne Friedrich earned his second yellow card for a foul on Darren Mattocks in the 69th minute, but Vancouver couldn't capitalize on the man advantage.
A header from Eric Hassli in the 87th minute was as close as the visiting side would come, but a brilliant save from Sean Johnson turned the ball over the top and preserved the result for the Fire.
