Heath Pearce was brought in from Chivas USA to shore up the New York Red Bulls defense. In Vancouver, he proved he can help on offense as well.
The versatile defender headed in a goal from Joel Linpere in the 86th minute to give the Red Bulls a hard-earned 1-1 draw on the road. Vancouver's Martin Bonjour took advantage of some poor set piece defending from New York to open up the game's scoring in the 75th minute. Alain Rochat and Davide Chiumiento assisted on the play.
In a game that featured few offensive chances, a draw appeared to be the fair result for both sides. The sides split possession and mustered comparable shot records.
New York now has 27 points and remains third in the Eastern Conference. Vancouver has 26 points and also remains third on Western Conference.
