Rookie striker Darren Mattocks scored a pair of goals as the Vancouver Whitecaps earned a 3-1 home win over the visiting Houston Dynamo Sunday night.
The Jamaican opened the scoring within the first five minutes of the match, turning home a cross from Young-Pyo Lee.
Gershon Koffie created the second goal for Mattocks on 66 minutes. The midfielder hit an inch-perfect pass with the outside of his boot, which the Akron product ran onto and finished.
The visitors were given hope through a fine finish by Macoumba Kandji, but the Whitecaps made the points secure just a few minutes later when Jordan Harvey scored.
With the win, Vancouver managed to surge past the Colorado Rapids and into fourth place in the Western Conference standings.
