Sporting Kansas City snapped a four-match winless streak with a 2-1 win over the San Jose Earthquakes at Livestrong Sporting Park. C.J. Sapong and Kei Kamara gave the home side an early lead before Simon Dawkins pulled a goal back in the second half.

Sporting KC got off to a flying start in the fifth minute. Kei Kamara floated an inch-perfect cross to the back post, where Sapong made no mistake, sliding a volley past Jon Busch for a 1-0 lead.

The home side continued to dominate most of the play and doubled its lead in the 39th minute. Michael Harrington received a ball on the left flank, cut to his right, and served a ball that Kamara rose and headed home from close range.

With 20 minutes left, San Jose pulled a goal back, thanks to a great individual effort by Dawkins. The midfielder collected the ball and was given space to curl a sidefooted shot into the far corner of the net.

With the victory, Sporting KC moves to within two points of Eastern Conference leader D.C. United, which has also played three more games than Sporting. San Jose remains two points back of Real Salt Lake at the top of the West.
