The San Jose Earthquakes earned a 1-1 draw at Buck Shaw Stadium against Chivas USA, thanks to an 88th minute header from Alan Gordon. The goal cancelled out an early strike from 19 year-old Jose Correa, making his first MLS start.
The goal was no less than the home side deserved, after a match where it out-shot the visitors by a 24 to five margin.
Just four minutes in, James Riley was released down the right flank and crossed for Correa, who darted in front of his man to hit a shot that snuck its way into the far corner.
San Jose had numerous chances to equalize throughout the match, but was thwarted time and time again by Chivas USA's outstanding goalkeeper Dan Kennedy.
Finally, two San Jose subs combined to grab an equalized with just two minutes remaining in regular time. Sam Garza sent in a good cross from the left flank and Gordon darted to the near post to beat Kennedy to the ball and nod home to ensure the points were shared on the night.
