Chicago Fire 2-1 Sporting Kansas City: Late Oduro goal punishes Sporting

Sporting Kansas City, once the runaway leader in the East, was punished for its mistakes by an incisive Chicago attack.

The Chicago Fire came back from a first-half deficit to score a home win and condemn the once invincible-looking Sporting Kansas City to a third straight defeat.

Bobby Convey's cool finish right as the clock hit 30:00 had given KC the lead, and it looked like Sporting might be set to continue the form that had seen it win seven straight games to start the season and dominate the Eastern Conference table since the outset.

A penalty swung the game in the other direction, though, as KC's Aurelien Collin was whistled for taking down Dominic Oduro in the box just short of the hour mark. Sebastian Grazzini buried his spot kick to equalize. Grazzini was then involved in the next major moment of the match, as his face was the target of Roger Espinoza's raised elbow, an infraction the Sporting player saw red for.

With a man advantage, Chicago capitalized in the 81st. Collecting a cross in his own box, Kei Kamara was entirely too nonchalant, allowing Patrick Nyarko to strip him of the ball and touch a deft cross into the path of Oduro to finish.
