D.C. United 3-2 Houston Dynamo: Santos and Bruin both at the double
Two goals from Will Bruin weren't enough for Houston as United got a brace of its own from Maicon Santos.
Patrick McDermott
D.C. United took three points from a thrilling 3-2 win over the Houston Dynamo.
Maicon Santos started the scoring with his first of the night after just over 10 minutes after meeting a Chris Pontius cross with his head to finish into an open net.
Will Bruin got Houston back on level terms just after the break. Jermaine Taylor did very well to work his way down the left flank and float in a cross. Bruin found himself on the end of the feed and poked it home from just in front of goal.
Dwayne De Rosario would be the next to strike with a shot that looked more like a cross but eventually came off the back post and into the net in the 53rd minute.
Bruin seemed determined not to let the match get away from Houston and found another equalizer thanks to Joe Willis' goalkeeping mistake. After a poor clearance deflected into Bruin's path, the forward unleashed a shot that should have made for a simple save but was spilled by Willis into his own net.
Santos would have the last laugh, though. In the 70th minute his second headed goal of the night - this time from a Daniel Woolard cross - gave the match its final scoreline.
