Columbus Crew 2-2 Houston Dynamo: Eddie Gaven brace helps split points
The MLS veteran supplied a convincing double to give his side a share of the spoils against a rough-and-tumble Dynamo.
By Shane Evans
The Columbus Crew and Houston Dynamo battled to a 2-2 draw at Crew Stadium with all four goals in the contest coming in the second half.
Eddie Gaven was the star of the match as the long-time MLS veteran nabbed a pair of goals only 10 minutes apart to put Columbus in front after Will Bruin opened the scoring. Brian Ching ensured the points would be shared after the American netted in the 81st minute to tie the score.
Bruin's goal came in the 59th minute as the young forward flicked on a corner past Andy Gruenebaum. A defensive gaffe led to Columbus' equalizer as Geoff Cameron undercooked a back pass that eventually fell to Gaven to slot home. Gaven's second was slightly more highlight-worthy as the midfielder took a layoff sweetly at the top of the box and fired home to make the score 2-1.
Not content with just scoring, Bruin set up the Dynamo's last goal in the 81st minute as he took the ball at the edge of the box and slid it by Chad Marshall to Ching who deflected it home to tie the score.
The Dynamo and Crew remain fifth and sixth, respectively, in the table after the match. Columbus will welcome Vancouver to Crew Stadium next week and Houston will travel to the nation's capital to take on D.C. United.
