The Rocky Moutain Cup bragging rights will stay in Salt Lake City, at least for now.
First half goals from Alvaro Saborío and Fabian Espindola led Real Salt Lake to a 2-0 home victory against its rivals, the Colorado Rapids.
Saborío got the hosts off to a strong start in the 20th minute when he received a ball from Tony Beltran in the center of the penalty box and finished with his right foot. Real Salt Lake dominated the opening 45 minutes, retaining over 65 percent of possession.
In the second half, the Rapids tried to improve their midfield efforts and looked to create chances. Yet, RSL decided to counter waiting for the right opportunity. Starlet Luis Gil took advantage and found Espindola in the 57th minute with a killer pass. The striker had a left footed finish in the box.
Colorado put one shot on target.
RSL improves to 5-1-0 on the season to remain top of the Western Conference. Colorado is now 3-2-0, sitting third in the West.
