The Los Angeles Galaxy were defeated by a team using its own blueprint.

Sporting Kansas City defeated the defending Major League Soccer champions in a 1-0 home victory thanks to a first half strike by Kei Kamara. The win maintains the club's impressive 5-0-0 start to the season, best in the league.

Kamara received a pinpoint cross from winger Bobby Convey in the 40 minute and the forward responded by emphatically heading in the ball in the back of the net. It was Kamara's third goal of the season and Sporting then began to mimic Los Angeles formula of success from last season, playing strong defense and maintaining possession.

The Galaxy clearly missed David Beckham's playmaking ability on the field. The team could only muster three shots, none of which were on target despite having both Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane on the pitch. Los Angeles also struggled nightly on retaining the ball, holding possession for only 38 percent of the game. Chad Barret had a chance in the 82nd minute to equalize for Los Angeles but the striker misfired as he ran into the penalty box, his shot going wide right.

With the away loss, the Galaxy fall to 1-3-0 in its opening four games and currently sit eighth in the Western Conference.
