What better way to get your first win than by defeating your biggest rival?

Sinisa Ubiparipovic and rookie Andrew Wenger found the net as the Montreal Impact earned their first-ever Major League Soccer win with a 2-1 victory over rival Toronto FC at Stade Olympique.

Ubipanripovic opened the scoring in the 18th minute and Wenger put the icing on the cake in the 81st, shortly after Toronto went down to 10 men due to a Logan Emory red card.

Danny Koevermans had a consolation goal for Toronto late in the game.

Montreal, which joined the league this season, won for the first time after losing three and drawing one. Meanwhile, Toronto will still have to search for its first MLS point this season after dropping its first four.

Just a few days after getting eliminated from the CONCACAF Champions League in the quarterfinals, Toronto would have liked a better start to this one. But it was Montreal which took control early on thanks to a mistake from the visiting team.

Toronto gave the ball away in its own third of the field, with Lamar Neagle playing the ball to Ubiparipovic at the top of the TFC box. The midfielder then slotted it past Milos Kocic.

Montreal appeared to be the more determined team in the match through the first half and continued its dominance in the second. And things got even worse for Toronto when Emory was tossed for taking down Sanna Nyassi to prevent a breakaway.

Playing the final 24 minutes with a man down, Toronto was unable to keep the Impact off the scoreboard again. Wenger, the first-overall pick in the 2011 MLS draft, took a pass from Justin Mapp to beat Kocic to put the home side up two.

Toronto made things interesting in the 88th minute when Koevermans knocked in a header, but it was too little too late for TFC.

Although Toronto and Montreal met for the first time in MLS, the rivalry dates back over 40 years. About 1,000 Toronto fans made their way to Montreal for the historic match.
