Colorado Rapids 2-0 Chicago Fire: Omar Cummings and Kamani Hill debut goal clinch home win for Rapids
The home side turned the pressure on in the second half, and earned its second home win of the 2012 season.
By Seth Vertelney
The Colorado Rapids improved to 3-1-0 on the young season after a convincing 2-0 home win over the Chicago Fire. Omar Cummings and midweek signing Kamani Hill scored second-half goals to clinch the points.
The first half was a mostly uneventful affair, with both Matt Pickens and Paolo Tornaghi making saves when their teams called upon them.
The Rapids started the second half on the front foot, and in the 58th minute, the home side made its pressure pay off.
Brian Mullen was released down the right flank by Martin Rivero and was given plenty of space to cut across the box to Omar Cummings, who rifled home first time.
The Rapids thought they doubled their lead in the 73rd minute, but Omar Cummings was ruled offside before Jaime Castrillon put home the rebound off his shot.
Deep into stoppage time, Kamani Hill made the points safe just 10 minutes after making his Rapids debut. The former Wolfsburg striker's initial shot was saved by Tornaghi, but the rebound fell right back to his feet, and he made no mistake on the second attempt.
