And that's it! Canada wins 3-0 in a chippy game that the Cubans did not roll over. Canada takes a temporary lead in Group C pending the result of tonight's Panama-Honduras match. I'm Rudi Schuller (@RudiSchuller), thanks for joining us!
We're into the three minutes of added time now.
Substitution Tosaint Ricketts Iain Hume
Iain Hume looking set to come in. Canada still going for goals as the tiebreaker is goal differential.
Yellow Card Andre Hainault
Substitution Will Johnson Pedro Pacheco
Substitution David Edgar Nikolas Ledgerwood
Assist Ante Jazic
Goal David Edgar
GOALLL!!!!! David Edgar hits an INCREDIBLE volley off a Jazic cross to give Canada a 3-0 lead. Unreal finish by the defender.
Ricketts puts it just over the bar after receiving a square ball at the top of the 18. He needs to force at least a save, there.
Goal Will Johnson
Red Card Olivier Occean
GOAL!!!! Johnson nods in from inside the six to double Canada's lead. As Occean tries to grab the ball from the net, he gets involved in a fracas and gets himself sent off
Red Card R. Linares
Straight red to Cuba after Hainault got clocked by Linares.
De Guzman forces a toe save after dancing around numerous defenders in the Cuban area. Canada still searching for a second.
Another Cuban free kick coming up, this time just inside the Canadian half, after a questionable call on Julian de Guzman, who seemed to dispossess his man cleanly.
Cuban free kick from 40 yards out goes WELL over the bar after an ambitious effort.
Follow up corner forces another clearance. Third corner finally gets knocked out by Canada.
Cuban corner, which gets nodded out by McKenna for another corner from the opposite side.
And just like that, Cuba goes JUST wide themselves, after a nice run and shot from Yoel Colombe barely misses Canada's right post.
Occean has ANOTHER header go just off the mark, this time from a well-floated Will Johnson free kick. They will need to put one of these away.
The Canadians still apllying ther pressure. It's almost completely in the Cuban third.
Cuban player down in his own box after he got SMOKED with a shot from De Guzman.
And we're back!
I'm going to take a little break here, but I'll be back for the second half kickoff.
The ref blows for halftime, and Canada is extremely unlucky only to be up 1-0. Could have put 4 or 5 more in in the last 10 minutes alone.
Canada can't seem to buy a goal in the closing moments, as they've had flurry after flurry of chances.
Canada comes close again, as a great passing sequence finds a lobbed ball into the Cuban six that Ricketts heads over. If the striker had left it alone, it likely would have fallen to a surging Will Johnson, who can be seen screaming at his teammate after the play.
Cuba gets its only real offensive thrust so far, when a great through ball sees a striker in alone on Hirschfeld at 40 yards. The Cuban's first touch is incredibly poor, allowing Hainault to dispossess him and clear the danger. Any reasonable first touch and the Cubans may well be on level terms.
Johnson whips in a good ball from a free kick, but Occean can't get over the ball and he nods it harmlessly into the south stand mob.
Canada called offside again as Occean breaks free of the Cuban defence. The hosts need to mind their surroundings if they want to pile on the goals.
Canada SCORES!! But it's called offside as Jackson may have been slightly ahead of the final defender when receiving a lobbed ball.
JUST WIDE!! Occean and De Guzman combine for a fancy passing sequence, but Occean's strike from 8 yards just grazes the outside of the post.
Jackson with a nice couple of moves to shake off two defenders, but his shot is right at GK Molina.
Canada still going for goal here. The hosts are clearly going for the jugular knowing that the Cubans are likely defeated mentally from the alleged defections earlier in the day.
GOAL!!!!! Canada finally gets one as Ricketts pops one in from a Jazic cross.
Assist Ante Jazic
Goal Tosaint Ricketts
JUST WIDE!! Ricketts just misses from inside 10 yards after receiving a great through ball from Hutchinson. It shot was blocked, and on the ensuing corner, the Canadians got the ball cleared off the line. You can feel somethingcoming here...
Occean put it just wide from an ambitious shot at 25 yards.
Jackson gets another shot off that the Cuban GK bobbles. Looking shaky at the back for the visitors.
CLOSE CALL!! Hutchinson runs down the right and puts in a cross, and both Jackson and Occean can't put it in from within the six.
Jackson gets the first shot of the match from the top of the 18. It's a partial cross/partial shot, and skims just wide of the Cuban's right post.
All Canada so far as the hosts look to grab a quick one.
And here we go!
Anthems are done, we're almost ready for action here!
It's really chilly here in Toronto, with current temperatures at 5 degrees C and dropping. The windchill off the lake makes it feel a good 5-10 degrees colder, so it's definitely to Canada's advantage.
Cuba starting XI: Hernandez, Tejeda, Cardenas, Serrano, Y. Valencia, J. Valencia, Balmaseda, Soler, Carbonnell, B. Machado, Y. Machado
Canada starting XI: Hirschfeld, Jazic, McKenna, Hainault, de Guzman, Johnson, Ricketts, Jackson, Hutchinson, Edgar, Occean
Anyway, on to the soccer stuff, here's tonight's starting lineups.
The defection rumours do appear to be founded in reality, though, as only 11 Cubans are listed on tonight's game sheet. They'll have zero substitutes available for selection.
We've already had some controversy here, as there are unsubstantiated rumours that several Cubans have disappeared from their hotel and headed to the US to defect. No one is saying anything official, but we'll pass word on to you as soon as we get it.
Good evening and welcome to Goal.com's live coverage of Canada vs. Cuba from a chilly BMO Field in Toronto. I'm Rudi Schuller (@RudiSchuller) and it's my pleasure to bring you all of tonight's action.
