Player Ratings: Slovenia 2-3 USA

Jurgen Klinsmann and the United States finally get a win in Europe for the first time in three years.

Made a few sloppy passes out of the back and was beat pretty easily on all three first-half goals. Not the best performance from the typically solid goalkeeper

Bostjan Cesar

Struggled with the pace of the U.S. at times but got forward a bit himself. Tackled well. Had a good headed effort in the second half come off the bar.

Marko Suler

Was strong in the middle but had some trouble with the big bodies of Altidore and Buddle. Got a bit lost on Dempsey's headed goal.

Bojan Jokic

Like his partner in the middle, didn't have his best game but kept the U.S. at bay in the second half.

Miso Brecko
Flop of the Match

The worst of the home team's defenders, Brecko wasted a guilt-edged chance in the first to get his side a goal from a free kick. Also surrendered a messy penalty before the first half whistle.

Andraz Kirm

Was involved in most of the Slovenian buildup and played a few nice balls to his teammates. Settled down in the second half and showed his relative class.

Armin Bačinovič

Virtually invisible in the midfield for Slovenia. Dempsey and Bradley took advantage of this on a number of occasions. Had more space in the second period, but did little with it.

Darian Matic

Underwhelming showing saw him taken out at halftime.

Josip Iličič

Bright and inventive going forward. Tried a bit too much dribbling but worked hard and was the main foil to the U.S. midfield.

Tim Matavz

Absolutely brilliant the entire match. His first goal was finished expertly while his second was cool and clam and full of great work. A real treat to watch.

Zlatan Ljubijankic

His finishing wasn't there as he missed a few significant chances, but set up both of Matavz's goals with lovely passes. Seems very comfortable playing alongside him.

Valter Birsa

Coming on as a second-half sub, Birsa added some much-needed spark to the Slovenian attack. Should be pleased with his efforts. Late free kick effort went just over the bar.

Dejan Lazarevic

Two minutes on the pitch, nothing doing.

Zlatko Dedic

Wasn't able to influence the match in its final moments.

Did little but bring down Dempsey late on and was shown a yellow for his troubles.

Tim Howard

Wasn't a great game for Howard as he was beaten rather easily on Matavz's two goals. A fumble in the box in the second half should have been punished, but it wasn't. Not the standard he'll be after.

Carlos Bocanegra

Played well in his 100th cap. Picked up the significant slack for Goodson, who lacked the composure of his central defense partner. Looked younger than he is.

Clarence Goodson

Was stiff and awkward in response to Slovenia's quick movements and passing. Questions still remain whether he is the answer in the middle after two sub-par matches.

Timothy Chandler

2.5

Looked a bit out of place on the right side of the defense and really had trouble staying in line with the rest of the defense. His service and willingness to go forward were commendable, but in actuality, not his best game in red, white and blue.

Steven Cherundolo

2.5

Covered lots of ground for the U.S. both defensively and going forward. Seemed well-suited for this type of match and made few mistakes. Didn't work sync well when U.S. played the trap, however, similar to Chandler.

Fabian Johnson

3.0

An impressive starting debut for Johnson who worked hard and pushed forward often. His burst into the box created the penalty and seemed comfortable among his new teammates.

Kyle Beckerman

2.0

A step below the rest of the U.S. players. Beckerman barely had a touch on the ball and seemed to never really catch up to the speed of the match. Should have done slightly better on Slovenia's second goal. Will need to improve.

Michael Bradley

Solid game for Bradley, who took a prominent role in Jurgen Klinsmann's team for the first time. His set piece and service were excellent and set up Dempsey's headed effort.

Clint Dempsey

Best player on the field for the U.S. All over the pitch helping out defensively and pushed forward at every chance he could. It looks like he's really enjoying the freedom given to him by Klinsmann and flourished on the day. His goal shouldn't have come as a surprise, given his play in this one.

Jozy Altidore

3.0

Appeared to benefit from having another striker on the pitch as there was less pressure on him to produce. His penalty was taken confidently, but had few other chances of note.

Edson Buddle

A great performance by the former LA Galaxy striker. His goal was superbly taken and worked hard to maintain possession for the U.S. throughout. Was sacrificed for additional midfield support in the second half.

Daniel Williams

Replaced a gassed Chandler down the left and played his part in the last 10 minutes of the match.

Maurice Edu

Took Buddle's spot in the team and sufficiently clogged up the midfield. Had a lot chance blocked at the edge of the box. Did little else.

Very little impact after coming on just before stoppage time.

Brek Shea

Brought on in the second half but really couldn't get himself into the match.
