Egypt 0-2 Brazil: Jonas double ruins Bob Bradley's Pharaoh debut

The American directed his first game on Monday evening, but saw two goals from the Valencia sharpshooter mark his introduction to the Egyptian fans with defeat.

Jonas ensured a disappointing start to Bob Bradley's career as Egypt coach, scoring twice to help Brazil sink the African side 2-0 in Monday's friendly in Doha.

The former Gremio sharpshooter netted one either side of half time to secure victory for the South Americans, who dominated proceedings.

Brazil was surprised in the opening minutes by a tenacious, determined effort from the Egyptians. The African Cup of Nations holders pressed across the pitch, and despite controlling possession, the Selecao failed to make an impact on goal in what was a turgid start to the match.

Hulk was at the center of most of the the South Americans' forward play. The Porto striker released a bomb of a free kick in the opening minutes which was deflected just wide for a corner, before showing off his strength and skill to shrug off two markers and blast over the bar.

Egypt, meanwhile, was driven by Razek Shinkabala, who forced Diego Alves to tip wide with a well-taken free kick.

Hulk was behind Brazil's goal in the dying minutes of the first half. The forward broke free on the right and drove the ball across goal, where it was met by Jonas to gleefully tap home. The Valencia man was overjoyed with his strike, the first time he had found the net for the national team.

The goal was a setback for the African team so close to the break, and Jonas came within inches of doubling the advantage seconds after the restart.

The forward rounded goalkeeper Ahmed El Shenawy and shot from wide, but Ahmed Hergazi arrived in the nick of time to clear off the line. The defender suffered for his commitment, however, and got up gingerly after colliding heavily with the post in his effort to save a certain goal.

Brazil doubled its lead as the game circled the hour mark. Fernandinho's header was parried by El Sharawy, and Jonas pounced to smash in the rebound.

Egypt was demoralized, and Hernanes should have made it a three-goal lead seconds later but his shot was dragged wide. One of the biggest cheers of the night, however, was reserved for Ahmed Hassan, who came on as a substitute to make his 179th appearance for the national team, and become the most-capped player in history.

The rest of the game was routine for Mano Menezes' side, which recorded its fifth win in six games since going down 3-2 to Germany. The two teams are scheduled to meet again in February 2012, in the Egyptian capital Cairo.
