A Jose Callejon double, an effort from Raphael Varane, and first senior goals for Nuri Sahin and Joselu saw Real Madrid expertly dispatch Segunda B side Ponferradina in a 5-1 win in the Copa del Rey on Tuesday evening, to progress to the next round with a 7-1 aggregate victory.

Jose Mourinho's men, carrying over a 2-0 advantage from the first leg, broke the deadlock through a nicely worked goal in the 24th minute. Mesut Ozil broke into space on the right wing and slid a pass through the channel to Callejon, who drove towards goal before smashing the ball into the bottom left corner.

The tie was put all but beyond Ponferradina a minute before the break when a set-piece goal allowed Real Madrid to extend its lead, and it was a simple enough move from the home side. Ozil whipped a deep corner kick into the box and Sahin ghosted in at the back post to header in to the bottom left corner.

It took Real Madrid just five minutes after halftime to grab their third goal of the match. Esteban Granero saw his dipping free kick saved by Quintana, only for defender Varane to arrive to power in the rebound.

But the Ponferradina fans were given a moment to remember when striker Acoran drifted in from the right wing and curled a lovely left-footed strike past Iker Casillas into the bottom corner.

The home side continued to dominate, though, and a quick free kick allowed Ozil to break forward through the center and slip a pass down the left to Callejon, who squared a pass to the back post for Spain under-21 international Joselu, who cushioned the ball home.

Callejon rounded off the win for his side when he latched on to a pass over the top and took the ball down expertly, before slotting into the bottom right corner to earn his brace.

Real Madrid now progresses to the round of 16 in the Copa del Rey and will enjoy a small holiday as the Spanish Primera Division enters its winter break.
