Player Ratings: USA 1-0 Honduras
Goal.com gives its take on the players from Saturday night's friendly.
By Allen Ramsey
Called on to make some big saves on a slick pitch and dealt with everything well despite some shoddy defending in front of him.
Beaten early by Costly and probably should have picked up a card. Not a good first half really, played a big part in most of Honduras' best chances. Replaced at the half by Onyewu.
Not great, not terrible. Bocanegra had a big task with Orozco beside him looking unsettled, but handled it fairly well. A bit better in the second half but was out of place on a couple of chances for Honduras.
Picked up a card for a foul on Benningston, but was involved in the build to Dempsey's goal. Did get beaten a few times down the line on a fairly poor night for the USA back line.
Looked good again on the left. A couple of little mistakes here and there, but generally a solid showing out of his normal position and got forward as expected. Was beaten on a good chance in the second half.
Some cheap fouls in the first half, but was asked to break up play and did that pretty well for the most part.
Great work to turn onto his weak foot and put the USA up 1-0. Another good showing for the USA's top attacking threat, who also stung a shot that saw the rebound fall to Onyewu for another big miss from the USA. Had his second goal waved off.
Tried to get forward as much as possible and added a bit to the attack. Missed a good chance to put the USA ahead with a header, but also set up Williams with a lovely first-time ball.
Set up Dempsey's goal with a nice low cross with his off foot. A lot of hustle in the midfield to chase down balls. Missed a sitter that would have made it 2-0, but was otherwise lively once again.
Solid first outing on the right wing. Had some nice combinations with Dempsey and Altidore and had a couple of very good scoring chances. Would have been nice to see a goal out of him, but overall a good showing.
Picked up a cheap card but looked much stronger on the ball than he has in the past. Set up Shea with a sitter that was missed and his work up top was what the USA needs to see out of him every time out.
Had a chance to put the USA up 2-0 and let it slip. Otherwise, not a bad showing at the back in a half of action and a big improvement over Orozco.
Not much impact after coming on, wasn't really asked to do much.
Had some poor touches in the middle of the pitch, but did break up play a few times as well. Had one nice run into the box but the return ball from Dempsey didn't come off. Sat much deeper than Edu and helped the USA cool Honduras' second-half push.
Had a solid enough night. Wasn't asked to do much really, but didn't make any glaring mistakes either. Got one shot off and showed that he may have some life left in his legs.
Came on and ran, didn't do much else.
Had a lot asked of him but did well to hold firm on most occasions. Was beaten a few times and his positioning wasn't always the best, but was Honduras' best defender.
Plenty of problems on the night. Didn't do well to hold his spot and was beaten far too often. Really put the pressure on Chavez to deal with the USA attack.
Had a tough night. Struggled to influence the game on either end. Was beaten on the goal.
Limited on how much he managed to influence play, but did hold his position well most of the night and was fairly good in position.
Had a glorious chance to pull Honduras level and missed it, but did really well to get into the position in the first place.
Called on to make a few save. Had no chance to stop Dempsey's shot and got off easy with Shea's miss. Did make a couple of nice saves.
Took Cherundolo down the side a couple of times and set the table for Bengtson to miss what looked like a really nice chance with the head.
Pace caused a lot of problems in the USA midfield early on. Stung a couple of long shots as well and looked like the most dangerous player in Honduras' midfield.
Plenty of problems for Escobar tonight, and he didn't deal well with most of them.
Got in behind and ran at goal only to be stopped by Howard. Really should have scored on several occasions.
Caused some major problems for Orozco. Forced a really nice save out of Howard in the first half and was one of the most dangerous men on the pitch for Honduras.
No major impact after coming on for Espinoza and didn't really provide the same kind of threat.
Did cause a couple of problems after coming on in the second half to replace the ineffective Bengtson.
Stung one nice shot and generally did alright in his 20 minutes of action.
