The Portland Timbers equalized in stoppage time to preserve a 1-1 draw away against Real Salt Lake.

RSL took the lead on the stroke of halftime. Fabian Espindola lifted a ball behind the Portland backline and into Alvaro Saborio's run. The Costa Rican deftly lifted a shot over the onrushing Troy Perkins and into the back of the net for the opener.

The Timbers were awarded a penalty early in the second half when the ball bounced off Chris Wingert's arm. However, Jack Jewsbury thwacked the spot kick off the crossbeam and out.

In the 89th minute, Saborio again lifted a ball around Perkins only to see this one bounce back off the post. Then, in stoppage time, Portland tied it up. Substitute Brian Umony crossed in front of goal and Bright Dike got a foot to it. With the ball still spinning wide, defender Futty Danso turned it in at the far post.

With the tie, RSL will face Seattle Sounders FC in the playoffs.
