Goals from Andre Hainault and Danny Cruz paced Houston to a 2-0 win in Portland, moving the Dynamo over Sporting Kansas City in the Eastern Conference.
"It's like letting your family down," goalkeeper Troy Perkins said. "There are people, not only do they spend their hard-earned money to come see us, but they spend their time to support us and they deserve the best."
Andre Hainault opened the scoring with a glancing header at the near post from a Brad Davis free kick in the 36th minute. The assist gives Davis 15 this season, tied for the most in MLS with David Beckham.
The Timbers now have a 0-13-3 record when conceding first.
Daniel Cruz doubled the lead on the hour mark with an audacious left-footed blast. The 21-year-old looked too far from goal to cause concern when his shot rocketed Dynamo into a sturdy lead and the play onto SportsCenter.
Luiz Camargo assisted Cruz. The Dynamo has yet to lose in any of Camargo's five starts.
Now unbeaten in five, Houston moves up to second in the Eastern Conference. Portland remains in the playoff chase despite the loss.
"I'm still telling them, we're going to try to get maximum points in the next two games whether we're 20 points out of the playoff race or not," Spencer said. "We'll not be changing our philosophy. For us, we're going to try and look to get as many points this year as possible."
