FC Dallas marked a decade of dominance in a 2-1 win over the Chicago Fire. The Texan side (formerly named the Dallas Burn) has now claimed 10 straight Brimstone Cups over the Fire.
The result also secured FCD's spot in the postseason and brought an end to its four-game losing skid.
"September was a rough month for us," defender Zach Loyd said. "I think fatigue caught up with us last month. But with international break, I think a lot of guys got their legs back, got some time off and mentally got their heads right."
Jackson and Daniel Cruz scored the goals to give Dallas a two-goal lead. Pavel Pardo was ejected with 10 minutes remaining to all but seal the result, though Sebastián Grazzini made it interesting with an 86th minute consolation.
Brek Shea, a day after playing 45 minutes for the U.S. national team in a 1-0 loss to Ecuador, entered the match for the last half hour.
Chicago remains six points out of playoff contention with two matches remaining. Defenders Cory Gibbs and Dan Gargan, each making his 100th regular season appearance, picked up yellow cards suspending them both for the next match.
"We were flat from the beginning, we weren’t sharp," Fire coach Frank Klopas said. "We were just one step behind everything."
