Tauro FC 5-3 FC Dallas: CONCACAF Champions League thriller sees three reds and two penalties
On a field barely playable, Tauro and Dallas somehow conspired to score eight goals and even found time to pick up three reds along the way.
By Zac Lee Rigg
Fans in Panama City were treated to a thriller in Tauro FC's 5-3 win over FC Dallas. The match involved eight goals, three red cards, two penalties and a water-logged field.
Despite the soggy field, Tauro got things going in the 12th minute, Luis Moreno slotting a low shot from outside the box into the bottom corner of the goal. Jair Benitez equalized with a plucky penalty, but Auriel Gallardo made sure the host side entered the break ahead.
Things took a turn for the bizarre in the second stanza. Benitez was issued a straight red for dissent prior to the hour mark. Second-half substitute Marcos Sanchez capitalized on the numerical advantage to hit a brace and put the game away.
Ruben Luna pulled one back, and Sanchez completed his hat-trick in the 87th minute to maintain Tauro's three-goal lead.
Dallas' Fabian Castillo was shown a red from for a late tackle in the 90th minute. Referee Marco Rodriguez wasn't done there, either. He ejected Carlos Rodriguez deep in injury time for a ruby tackle in the box, and Luna scored the penalty to complete the scoring.
