Isidro Metapan 1-3 Colorado Rapids: Reserve Rapids keep CONCACAF Champions League dream alive
Colorado secured a 3-1 win over Metapan in El Salvador, meaning its CCL fate is in its own hands heading into the last matchday.
By Zac Lee Rigg
A reserve-laden Colorado Rapids handed Metapan its first home loss of the CONCACAF Champions League on Wednesday night. The 3-1 win moved Colorado ahead of Metapan with seven points in Group B.
A win or a draw against Santos Laguna on Oct. 19 will see the Rapids through to the knockout round.
Defender Eddie Ababio lobbed the 'keeper after just a half an hour before breaking out an endearing dance on his professional debut.
Former New York Red Bulls defender Alfredo Pacheco equalized a few minutes later when he slammed an indirect free kick in the box into the bottom corner of the goal.
Colorado made Allan Kardeck rue a fierce shot that pinged off the underside of the crossbeam when Quincy Amerikwa one-timed a scorching volley that squirmed through Miguel Montes' fingers.
Substitute Omar Cummings finished the scoring in the 77th minute when he latched onto a hoofed ball and prodded a shot home.
