FC Dallas 0-2 Pumas UNAM: Two late goals decide CONCACAF Champions League clash
Each team had a player ejected in the first half, but Pumas' fitness made the difference when the Mexican side scored two late goals.
By Zac Lee Rigg
Two late goals relegated FC Dallas to a 2-0 home loss to Pumas UNAM in the CONCACAF Champions League. With the win, Pumas moves top of group, with Dallas second.
"We knew this game was key for us to get back into a position that will allow us to compete to go to the next stage," Pumas coach Guillermo Vasquez said. "We needed to get the three points in order to get into the position that we needed to ensure qualification into the next stage."
Emilio Orrantia assisted both goals. The first, in the 84th minute, was a low cross which Eduardo Aguirre swept home. David Izazola finished the second in injury time after Orrantia cut the ball back in the box.
"Towards the end, I think, it just came down to fatigue," Dallas defender Ugo Ihemelu said. "Guys' legs got heavy and they just kept coming."
Both FCD's Jackson and Pumas' Luis Fuentes were ejected in the 40th minute for a silly spat.
"Losing a key player like Jackson hurt us - his speed and his ability to keep defenders back," FCD coach Schellas Hyndman said. "It hurt them as well in [losing] their center midfielder, but I think they took control of the game with the possession."
