Colorado Rapids 1-4 Santos Laguna: Hosts lose top spot of CONCACAF Champions League Group B in thrashing
Colorado let in four goals before responding in Dick's Sporting Goods Park, with Santos winning 4-1.
By Zac Lee Rigg
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - Gary Smith opted to rotate his Colorado Rapids squad with Santos Laguna visiting for CONCACAF Champions League play Tuesday night. The ploy backfired tremendously, with Santos racing to a four-goal lead before the Rapids pulled one back to settle on a 4-1 scoreline.
The result allows Santos and Metapán to leapfrog over Colorado in Group B.
Santos scored through Daniel Ludueña and Oribe Peralta in the first half, with Carlos Quintero and Cristian Suárez tallying in the second. Brian Mullan pulled one back for the Rapids.
"It wasn’t enough - anything short of that is just not going to work," Mullan said. "I had chances I should have finished and didn't. They took us apart."
