The Barcelona midfielder scored two goals, including a last-gasp winner, having seen his spot-kick initially saved by Claudio Bravo following a controversial penalty award.

Substitute Cesc Fabregas struck twice as Spain came from two goals down to beat Chile 3-2 in an entertaining friendly in Switzerland on Friday night.

Mauricio Isla and Eduardo Vargas had put the South Americans two up early on, but Andres Iniesta reduced the deficit after coming on at the break and Fabregas completed a memorable comeback with two goals - including a last-gasp effort after his penalty had been pushed onto the post by Claudio Bravo.

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque named a strong side to face the South Americans, but was forced to field a makeshift back-line in the absence of Barcelona defenders Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique, both out through injury.

Alexis Sanchez and Jean Beausejour looked lively as they linked up on the left flank and it was a pass from that side of the pitch from Gonzalo Jara which set up Isla to give Chile the lead after 11 minutes. Jara's brilliant change of play saw Isla clean through in the right-hand side of the area and the Udinese midfielder let the ball bounce once before beating Iker Casillas with a thunderous right-footed drive.

Chile looked good for its lead at that point and one soon became two as Vargas latched on to a pass from Alexis Sanchez, rounded Casillas and slotted into the empty net with Spain's defence stagnant once more.

Very soon, Spain was back in it as Iniesta found the net with a deflected low drive from outside the box, which would have gone wide had it not taken a touch off Jara.

Another substitute - and Barcelona player - then leveled with 20 minutes left as Cesc Fabregas found himself one-on-one with Claudio Bravo and slotted a low shot past the Chile keeper. He completed the win as he slotted into the empty net in the dying seconds after his spot-kick had been pushed onto the post by Bravo.

Chile had been reduced to 10 men eight minutes earlier following the dismissal of Pablo Contreras for an unseemly lunge on Santi Cazorla. Jorge Valdivia was also shown a red card on the bench as he protested the late penalty, with players from both sides involved in ugly exchanges at the end of the match.
