Showed why he is nominally a backup goalkeeper when he failed to collect an early corner, gifting Inter the lead. But he did make reasonable saves to deny Obi, Alvarez and Zarate later in the match.
The captain was rather unfortunate to see Lucio's early volley flick off him and into the net to open the scoring. He was solid for the most part, but was beaten too easily by Zarate to score the winner.
The left back, one of a pair of twins in the defense, was extremely poor at Inter's second goal, getting his body shape all wrong as Nagatomo slipped the ball through his legs before charging on to cross for Pazzini to score.
The right back was never particularly exposed by Joel Obi, who was forced to work a defensive shift after Inter took an early two-goal lead.
Lack of communication with goalkeeper meant he outjumped him to flick on Alvarez's corner for Lucio to score. Also failed to pick up Pazzini for second goal. The only reason he wasn't further exposed was because Inter stopped attacking.
Scored a fantastic free kick, forced one wonderful save from Julio Cesar and two decent blocks, proving to be his side's most creative influence and biggest threat.
An energetic presence in the midfield. Looked to drive forward whenever he could and curled an effort inches wide in the opening moments of the second half.
Employed as a midfield anchor, where he was particularly effective, especially in his attempts to recycle possession and get his side back on the front foot after Inter's counters.
The young Liberia international was lively down the right-hand side but never really made a significant impact in terms of game-changing moments.
The Ivory Coast forward was another who caused Inter problems with his direct style but never managed to involve himself in any key moments besides a header against the outside of the post in the first half.
Frustrated for most of the match, losing the ball constantly as he looked to do it all himself, but he did bring his side level - briefly - with a fine goal.
Replaced Mamaev in the 68th minute and at least forced a save from Julio Cesar with a deflected free-kick.
Followed his impressive display between the sticks against Bologna, the Brazilian had a mixed evening making one fine stop to thwart Dzagoev while being particularly suspect at his free-kick goal.
The Inter captain worked hard to help his side preserve their lead and had one or two positive moments in possession, but was too easily beaten by Vagner Love as he cut inside.
Appeared immediately rejuvenated under Ranieri's stewardship, and he continued where he left off against Bologna, giving his side a sixth-minute lead. Was poor at Vagner Love's goal but this was the only blip in a resolute and strong defensive showing.
Was all at sea on occasion, giving away the free kick from which Dzagoev scored, but in the end, he was part of a defence which survived relentless pressure.
The much-maligned Romanian faced a difficult task in containing Oliseh, but made a decent fist of it.
The versatile Japanese started at right back, from where he showed trademark energy to burst forward and set up Pazzini's goal. Worked incredibly hard all night, but was nowhere to be seen when Vagner Love cut in off his side.
The summer signing was handed his competitive debut - besides the Supercoppa Italiana showpiece - in Sneijder's injury-enforced absence, and was fine. Was tidy in possession and even worked back to help his defense at times.
Made a fantastic start, popping up in key positions to protect his defence, and later provided an assist with intelligent lofted pass for Zarate.
Continues to hold a starting position as he becomes more of a first-team regular this season, and went close with two headers as he ghosted in unnoticed at the far post.
Only played 49 minutes but made a huge impression by working hard up front. Provided a cross which Obi nearly converted while showing real poacher's instinct to find space and tap in Nagatomo's cross.
Earned a return to the starting line-up after coming and on scoring against Bologna, and tried to link up play on the rare occasions he saw the ball.
Replaced Alvarez to add solidity to the team for the closing minutes.
The 18-year-old made debut and was effective in wasting some time down by the corner flag.
