Toronto FC-FC Dallas CONCACAF Champions League match abandoned

The CONCACAF Champions League group stage match between Toronto and Dallas was called off due to a lightning storm in Toronto and will be replayed on Thursday

Wednesday night's CONCACAF Champions League showdown between Toronto FC and FC Dallas was called off at halftime due to a lightning storm and tornado warnings in the Toronto area. The game in its entirety will be replayed Thursday morning.

Dallas was leading 1-0 at halftime thanks to an excellent chipped volley in the 18th minute from Jackson, but the game was first delayed due to inclement weather in the 32nd minute. After a half hour delay, the teams returned to the field and finished the first half, but the game was further delayed as the storm intensified.

After the delay, fans were asked to evacuate the stadium because of a tornado warning. The press followed suit not long after, moving to the press conference room, according to reports on Twitter.

Nearly two hours after the second delay, the game was officially called. The game will be replayed in full starting at 10:15 a.m. ET on Thursday morning.

This is the second occasion inclement weather has caused a game in Toronto to be abadoned this season. The May 26 final match in the Canadian Championship against Vancouver Whitecaps FC was abadoned in the 60th minute with Vancouver leading 1-0. Toronto would go on to win the replay 2-1, ensuring its berth in the 2011-2012 CONCACAF Champions League.
